Buro Happold and Gross Max celebrate Norway win

Buro Happold and Gross Max are celebrating after their Straume City Centre urban design competition entry was selected by the client, Sartor Holding.The team led by Haptic Architects and NORDIC – Office of Architecture secured the commission to transform the west coast city on the back of an environmental design approach that provided shelter from the wind and maximize sunlight in the main public spaces.
Incorporating three large urban blocks and a public square to cater for a variety of events, the scheme will be dominated by a stone clad 13-storey office and library tower, the design of which has been informed by the landscape and geometry of its setting.
Separate blocks composed of hotel and residential accommodation will be located to the immediate south atop ground level retail, with the whole composition arranged around a central public square that negotiates a substantial level change.
