February 27 2013
West Highland College has appointed Morgan Sindall to deliver a £2m extension and refurbishment of their premises at Portree, Skye. The 7,000 sq/ft extension has been designed by Wittets Architects and will provide a raft of new and refurbished facilities for students; including new facilities for construction, hairdressing, professional cookery, hospitality, art, and business/IT, as well as state of the art classroom and conferencing spaces.
Designed to maximise its exposure to light the extension features extensive glazing on its southerly elevation and is intended to attain a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating.
Lydia Rohmer, principal and chief executive at West Highland College UHI, said: “The project is coming alive now and we look forward to offering exciting new options and choices for excellent education and training to school leavers, adult learners and businesses by the autumn. We already support over 200 learners – full time and part time – through the college centre in Portree and we look forward to this number growing from September 2013 as a result of this great new facility.”
