Victoria House demolition to make way for new homeless accommodation
A derelict former hostel in the centre of Aberdeen is being demolished to make way for a new homelessness prevention facility.

Victoria House is expected to be cleared by Hunter Demolition at the end of March whereupon the site will be split between a  three storey short term facility including 20 bedsits with ensuite shower facilities and a neighbouring six storey block of flats providing 20 flats ranging from one to four bedrooms.

Councilor Neil Cooney, convener of the Housing and Environment committee, said: "All unintentionally homeless households are now entitled to settled accommodation and temporary accommodation is being made available to all households who require it.

"This flagship development of 40 units of accommodation will ensure that we are there to continue to prevent or alleviate homelessness."

The project is expected to be completed by July 2014.
