Second V&A consultation opens this week following redesign
January 14 2013
A second public consultation into Kengo Kuma’s V&A at Dundee cultural centre is being held this week after cost-cutting measures prompted a relocation of the cultural outpost from a piled island on the river Tay back onto dry land. This will give the public an opportunity to comment on the amendment, which brings the design centre closer to the Discovery by locating it on land currently occupied by the Olympia Leisure Centre – leaving just its ‘prow’ projecting over the river.
A planning application for the revised scheme will be submitted by April with the intention of commencing construction before the year is out following demolition works.
The £45m V&A at Dundee would then open its doors to the public by the end of 2015.
The public consultation will be held from 17-19 January at the University of Abertay’s Bernard King Library.

That image is very dissapointing compared to the promise shown in the competition model. Gone are the lightness and translucency of the design. The open top has now become Dundee's biggest flat roof. A real shame I think.
