Figures reveal cost of Glasgow's super-casino pitch
March 14 2007
According to parliamentary figures published this week, Glasgow City Council spent considerably less on its pitch for the super-casino than its rivals.£50,000 was spent by the council on the pitch for the UK’s first super-casino licence - the loss of which was initially attributed to a lack of Executive support - compared with Blackpool’s investment of £200,000 and £150,000 from surprise winners Manchester.
In its feedback to a Lords committee on the bidding process the council complained that public support had also been a factor.
International casino owners including Sands LV and MGM Grand had expressed an interest in Glasgow’s bid.
