Construction commences on Maggie’s Aberdeen

Maggie’s have begun construction of their latest cancer support centre, a £3m facility in the grounds of Forester Hospital, Aberdeen, with Robertson moving on site to commence a 40 week build programme.Designed by Halliday Fraser Munro and Snohetta the centre is conceived as a pavilion in a parkland setting, sporting a curvaceous concrete exterior contrasted with a more angular soft timber interior.
Laura Lee, chief executive of Maggie’s, commented: “Our new centre will be located on the grounds of the hospital, just a stone’s throw away from where people are being treated for cancer; and we will have a uniquely designed building, providing a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere to visitors.”
Keith Taylor, regional managing director of Robertson added: “The contemporary design of the building makes it an interesting project in terms of construction and will lead to an extremely tranquil, positive environment for people with cancer and their families.”
The centre has been made possible thanks to fundraising work by the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation, founded by Colin Montgomerie in memory of his mother and is scheduled to complete in June 2013.
