Tayside House demolition gets underway
September 3 2012
Preparatory work for the demolition of Tayside House is now well underway with the completion of scaffolding works by contractor Safedem. This shroud masks a hive of activity within as contractors Safedem remove upper floor plant rooms and services as well as creating internal ‘drop zones’ to allow floor by floor demolition to take place - expected to commence within the next couple of weeks.
The deconstruction process is being detailed via a project blog and follows the earlier demolition of an adjoining podium block and walkway.
Their clearance will allow Dundee City Council to carry out road realignment works to Dock Street, Crichton Street and Whitehall Crescent, facilitating implementation of the waterfront masterplan.
Council staff decanted last year to the new Dundee House.
It is expected that the tower will be fully demolished by December 2012.

I've been waiting for this a long time. A blight on the City, not to mention the corrupt politics that were behind getting it built. Let's hope this particular, architectural cleansing will put Dundee into the Forward.
