Edinburgh University submit Holyrood North plans

Edinburgh University have submitted plans for Holyrood North, a development of 1,160 student flats, offices, shops, bars and restaurants built on the site of existing university buildings.Designed by JM Architects and Oberlanders the mixed use scheme marks the first phase of John Hope Architects’ masterplan for this section of the Old Town.
It will rise opposite Holyrood South, a £12m development of 260 postgraduate student flats at the corner of Holyrood Road and Viewcraig Gardens designed by Richard Murphy Architects.
Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler said: “We are delighted to have been selected as preferred bidder for this long-term contract in the student accommodation sector, which is a key area of focus for us. We have worked with the University of Edinburgh on numerous projects over the past 18 years and look forward to supporting them in realising their long-term aspirations to enhance the postgraduate student experience.”
Scheduled to start on site next year the scheme will rise in vicinity to Oberlanders Sugarhouse Close student housing.
