Shortlist finalised for Dundee’s ‘District 10’
July 31 2012
A shortlist of four design teams to construct the first building in a new creative industries neighborhood on Dundee’s waterfront has been finalised. They include David Blaikie and Oliver Chapman Architects, working in tandem with David Narro Associates, Irons Foulner and McLeod and Aitken, as well as three others.
The winning team will be responsible for advancing an existing design prepared by AIM to RIBA Stage E.
Blaikie told Urban Realm: “This is the first time that either Oliver or myself have collaborated on a PCS submission and the first time that I have moved past the first stage and one of the very few times that Oliver has.
“It is an attempt to offer an option to the client that might allow them to look past the larger, 'usual suspect' practices that are seen as the safe bet - but not always the best consultant for the project - to smaller innovative practices that will provide an excellent service and more interesting design solutions.”
The £1m Public Contracts Scotland tender is being run by Scottish Enterprise and comprises a two stage plus interview process. The winning team set to be announced on August 8.

Is this the same scheme as the one with the shipping containers and joyous breakdancing hipsters featured a while back? If not there's more than one CGI artist out there with tragically misconceived notions of life in Dundee...

Why are AIM not being allowed to continue their good work in advancing their own project?

Come on folks - 'neighborhood'? Apart from that, I hope there is some cohesion with everything planned for that area.

Can we please cut the snide little put-downs of Dundee? What is it about you Scots that makes you hate each other so much anyway?
