Commonwealth Games athletes village marks two years to go

Organisers of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games have staged an open day to inform athletes, officials and the public a sneak peak of what to expect come 2014.On the doorstep of both Celtic Park and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, the estate will be home to some 6,500 athletes and staff during the sporting bonanza.
Post Games the site will provide 700 new social and private homes for local people at the heart of one of the Uk’s largest regeneration areas in Glasgow’s east end.
The site is being developed by the City Legacy Consortium which includes CCG, Cruden, Mactaggart & Mickel and WH Malcolm with RMJM acting as masterplanner.
Ed Monaghan, spokesperson for the City Legacy Consortium said: “With Two Years to Go, work is on schedule in creating the Athletes’ Village.
“Not only are we creating new jobs for people in the local area, after the Games, the Athletes’ Village will provide a vibrant new community with amenities, public spaces and housing, most with riverside views and only 3 miles from Glasgow’s city centre.”
