Nord to design Maggie’s Forth Valley
July 4 2012
Nord have become the latest architectural practice to pick up a Maggie’s commission after they were selected to design Maggie’s Forth Valley, in the grounds of Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert.Occupying the site of the former Royal Scottish National Hospital and set within seventy acres of mature woodland, the centre will occupy a prime plot adjacent to an ornamental loch.
No designs have yet been drawn up but the practice’s thinking is said to employ a ‘strong vertical presence’ that takes advantage of changes in site level to offer views to the Ochil Hills and across the Forth Valley.
Nord director Alan Pert said: “At a recent visit to the Maggies London Headquarters we came across a collection of architectural models of the various centres built over the years including Richard Murphy's first one from 1996. It is an incredible achievement that so many of these buildings have been realised and to contribute to this vision is a huge privilege.”
Maggie’s Chief Executive Laura Lee said: “They [Nord] are an inspirational and contemporary company who draw their influences from social and cultural issues making them, in our eyes, the perfect fit for Maggie’s.”
The centre is being funded by the grant making charity Walk the Walk, following their successful fundraising for Maggie’s Gartnavel.
Ian White Associates recently cleared acres of rhodedendron bushes from the site as part of wider landscaping works

Thanks for that Mark. Not sure if that shows more ignorance of NORD's work or what Maggie's centres are all about, but at least you got a kick out of how funny you think you are.
Great commission for NORD. Well done.

Nice insight there Mark. It wasn't appalling in the slightest. No matter what everyone who reads it thinks.
Well done NORD. Wonderful commission, for a wonderful organisation.
