Helensburgh Waitrose secures planning approval

Planners at Argyll & Bute Council have approved plans by Waitrose to erect a food hall and petrol station on the outskirts of the seaside town.To be built by Drum Property and designed by Simon Walsh, associate director at Cooper Cromar, the scheme will be the chains third new build store in Scotland, providing some 36,000sq/ft of gross space.
It also marks formal rejection of an ambitious Gareth Hoskins masterplan for a supermarket-led redevelopment of Helensburgh’s esplanade.
Work on the food store is expected to commence in mid-October and to complete by August 2013.
Waitrose is currently building a new store in Stirling and plans to erect a store in Milngavie subject to the necessary planning approvals.
