Partick student housing wins planning
June 26 2012
Planning permission has been awarded to Alumno Developments for the creation of a 174 bed student residential scheme and ground floor retail on the site of a Comet store on Dumbarton Road.Designed by Carson & Partners the scheme will entail demolition of the existing structure, deemed to have a ‘negative impact’ on the surrounding streetscape and replace it with a structure of appropriate usage, density, scale, massing and design.
Alumno’s managing director David Campbell, who originally hails from Glasgow, said: “We will deliver an energy-efficient development for the Partick area of high quality, combining modern, purpose-built student accommodation and attractive retail units at street level.
“I can assure local people that it will be well managed around the clock, providing excellent on-site facilities as well as the necessary support and welfare services for students. In addition the development is car-free and sustainable, supporting local transport use and infrastructure.
The scheme is scheduled to complete in August 2013.

' In addition the development is car-free and sustainable, supporting local transport use and infrastructure.' It means it is going to be even more diffiicult to find parking spaces in an area allready congested.
