June 1 2012
Network Rail have issued a reminder to passengers that Dalmarnock Station will be closed from Sunday to allow work to begin on a new £11m station. It will remain shut through to November 25, but won’t be fully complete till late 2013, to allow formation of new access points, lift, pedestrian footbridge, surfaces and wall cladding.
A new customer information and communication system will also be installed
David Simpson, Network Rail route managing director for Scotland, said: “Once complete the new Dalmarnock station will greatly enhance facilities for regular passengers and provide an impressive welcome for visitors to the area, especially those attending the 2014 Games.
“Due to the extensive and complex nature of the project it is not possible to deliver the new station without a short closure of the existing facility, but every effort has been made to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.”
Atkins recently won the best proposed building category at the Scottish Design Awards for their work on the station.
