The Saltire Society has named Dick Cannon as guest chair of the Saltire Housing Design Awards, an annual hunt for the best new housing in Scotland.

Cannon’s appointment comes just one year after his practice, Elder & Cannon, won a Saltire medal for their work at the Botany in Glasgow’s Maryhill.

Commenting on his appointment Cannon said: “The awards are an important vehicle for showcasing the work of which we Architects and House-Builders are most proud, but more importantly they present an opportunity for the industry at large to consider how to turn the debate on design quality into reality, and produce beautiful homes and environments”.

Entries for the 2012 awards are currently being sought.
