Suburbia comes to rural Angus - fantastic, and I suppose there are the local jobs to support this settlment without having everyone commuting to Aberdeen or Dundee, no? Thought not - sustainable my eye.

The water at the top in this picture is called Loch Wee. It is not a natural loch but was created when that area was excavated for materials used in the construction of the runway. I was told by an old employee at the base, that the water table is very high here ( between 3 - 9 feet below the surface ) and the quarried area naturally filled up when dug. When it was in use they drew the water from wells beneath the base and treated it for domestic use. The area around the old base is still quarried for gravel and sand. I worked at RAF EDZELL for over 10 years, until closure in 1997.

It's great to see some real development starting in the south of Aberdeenshire and especially Edzell. The loss of the base had a big impact on the area. Just hope the council does not allow the developer to overrun the development with shoe box architecture.
