Glasgow shows signs of life with 18 construction cranes

Dire economic predictions for 2012 belie a surprising amount of construction activity, albeit the bulk of it resulting from public procurement and student housing.Below we take a wander around some of the more significant construction projects underway in Glasgow at the moment.
Between them they amount for 18 construction cranes, half of which are engaged at the giant Southern General Hospital site, and one long reach demolition crane.
Southern General Hospital, Govan
The vast SGH complex is beginning to make its presence felt on the skyline, with input from Nightingale, HLM and BMJ.
Scottish Hydro Arena
Foster’s Clydeside Arena is rapidly progressing toward its 2013 opening date.
Student housing, Yorkhill
Fletcher Joseph Architects are on site of a massive 447 bed student housing complex on the site of a former school.
Gurdwara, Berkeley Street
This £15m limestone temple will boast a flamboyant glass reinforced plastic dome.
SECC carpark
Piling works have commenced on site of an EPR designed hotel and KKA penned car park at the SECC.
Student housing, Partick
Manson Architects are on site with this 201 bed student block adjacent to the river Kelvin.
Ibroxholm Oval, Ibrox
These 22 storey towers are being gradually chomped down to earth by the UK’s longest reach demolition crane.

Amdist all these student bedsits and car parks you missed Partick Housing Assoicaion's 87 unit development of affordable family-sized housing for rent and shared equity at Ferry Road. No crane required.
