City of Glasgow College campus approved
Plans to erect a £200m “super campus” on Glasgow’s Cathedral Street have been given the go ahead after full funding was committed - clearing the way for Atkins to begin progressing their design.

City of Glasgow College, a merger of Central, Metropolitan and Nautical Colleges, will occupy the 40,000 student campus

The lions share of the bill is being footed by the Scottish Funding Council with the College itself contributing £5.67m.

A procurement process will now begin with construction set to commence in Summer 2013 for completion by Summer 2016.

Education Secretary Michael Russell said: "Planning for the new buildings has been in the pipeline since three colleges in the city merged last year and I am very pleased to be able to commit to providing up to £193m.

"Students and staff alike will relish being based in buildings of the highest quality and I look forward to hearing about how the new campus is coming together."

Atkins secured the work to design the mammoth college after winning a controversial competition which allegedly favoured the lowest cost bid.
