Dunfermline Leisure Centre opens

Dunfermline Leisure Centre opens
Fife Council are to open the doors to their in-house designed Carnegie Leisure Centre, Dunfermline, on November 26.

The B listed building in the heart of the Fife town was originally opened by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1905 and includes the original Victorian pool and Turkish leisure suite.

A training pool has been added to this mix, with heating requirements met via Dunfermline’s district heating system and rooftop solar panels.

Other new additions to the historic leisure centre include a gymnasium and aerobics suites which benefit from a displacement ventilation strategy introduced by RSP Consulting Engineers.

This strategy sees warm air displaced by circulation of fresh air at low level – minimising the use of refrigerant chillers.

RSP also incorporated re-use of an existing bore hole to supply water as well as rainwater recycling for WCs.
