AMA submit Edinburgh student housing plans
November 21 2011
A full application has been made by AMA Homes for a mixed use development of managed student flats for rent and homes for private sale at Slateford Road, Edinburgh.Designed by Oberlanders the scheme will incorporate a pocket park on the site of a former distribution centre.
In their design statement Oberlanders write: “The previous proposal carried the tenement scale along the full length of Primrose Terrace and while it was acknowledged that this was an acceptable and appropriate urban design solution, the high number of windows looking down into Primrose Terrace was noted as a concern.
“The current proposal significantly reduces that number of windows to the minimum possible.”
Shared surfaces will be introduced by removal of signage with raised kerbs and paved linings delineating different uses.
The latest application follows rejection of an earlier bid by AMA to demolish all existing on site buildings and a continuation of the tenement form around the site perimeter.
