Spoof Union Terrace Gardens postcard comp launched
October 3 2011
A satirical postcard competition intended to lampoon efforts to transform Aberdeen’s Union Terrace Gardens into a City Square has been launched by Skirmishes – the built environment charity.‘Wish You Were Here’ invites designers and the public to dream up depictions of the type of holiday cards tourists to the granite city are likely to be sending home come 2020.
Skirmishes member and Kraft Architecture head, Bruce Newlands told Urban Realm: “The idea is to allow people to illustrate how they see the gardens / Aberdeen represented in the future but also to collect comments on the proposals.
“We're hoping that this triggers a bit of debate whilst the shortlisted entries for the formal design competition are on public display in Aberdeen in mid October.”
It is hoped that a public exhibition of these 'alternative' designs can be mounted in tandem with this official exhibition.
