Tontine House refit accommodates Commonwealth Games HQ
September 28 2011
Organisers of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games have begun moving into the former Tontine House, following its refurbishment by City Building, Glasgow City Council’s arm’s length construction company. The headquarters, which will henceforth be known as Commonwealth House, will eventually play host to over 1,000 members of staff across 108,000 sq/ft of floorspace.
Renovation work has taken over a year and includes representations of all 17 Commonwealth sports in both pictograms and naming conventions for the rooms.
Some 200 members of staff are settling into the Merchant City property as part of the first phase, building up toward a full cohort of 1,000 come September 2013.
After the Games the property will be placed on the market for commercial let.
Glasgow 2014 Chairman Lord Smith said: "Commonwealth House will leave yet another tangible landmark after the Games, and a positive legacy for the city, in completely refurbishing a traditional building to a fit-for-purpose Games Headquarters."

Does anyone know what it will be used for after the games? Does commercial let mean that it will be used by the council?
