Dust settles after Sighthill tower blocks demolition

The City of Edinburgh Council have completed the demolition of three tower blocks in the North Sighthill area of the city with the controlled blowdown of Glenalmond, Hermiston and Weir Courts.Accommodating 285 flats between them the blocks will be cleared to make way for up to 320 new homes for sale and rent, half of which will be affordable.
The redevelopment forms part of the council’s 21st Century Homes project which will create up to 1,300 new homes at a cost of up to £150m.
Speaking after the demolition, Cllr Work, Vice Convenor for the Health, Social Care and Housing Committee, said: "The demolition was a truly spectacular sight and all went as planned, which is credit to all those involved in the operation. Now we can look to the future as we drive to build new homes for the 21st Century.”
