Vegas style casinos proposed for Manchester and Glasgow

Proposed deregulation of the gambling rules is opening up the casino business in the UK. International gaming company Kerzner are currently developing plans for casinos in both Manchester and Glasgow.In Manchester a consortium led by Kerzner International Limited and Manchester-based Ask Developments (and including partners Artisan and MANCAT) has been appointed by the Manchester City Council to develop £260 million casino and family entertainment complex at Sportcity, East Manchester.
The Sportcity complex will sit alongside Manchester City FC and other sports facilities. It will include a 870,000 sq ft complex including a casino, hotel, a 4,000-seat multi-purpose arena and ice rink, together with an indoor swimming pool complex – including an artificial beach and wave machine. The proposed casino is expected to be a themed space with 1,250 slot machines, 50 gaming tables, several bars and a restaurant.The centrepiece of the development is a glass structure designed by Ian Simpson Architects. It will also feature a family entertainment facility, with three restaurants and an international food court. Ask/Artisan plan to build 500 one, two and three bedroom apartments around a new marina with views over Sportcity and Philips Park. The Glasgow casino will form part of the proposed extension to the SECC on the edge of the Clyde.
