Fraser reveals Saltire Awards shortlist

Malcolm Fraser, guest chairman of the Saltire Society Housing Design Awards, has unveiled his take on this year’s top additions to Scotland’s housing stock.Almost half of this year’s crop of entries stem from affordable housing or regeneration initiatives – reflecting the Society’s inclusive aims.
Speaking of the “Given the difficult times we are in I’m encouraged to see that, alongside all the initiatives and good-practice partnerships we see ongoing, good, simple, people-focussed architecture adds real value to homes and communities.”
Amongst the schemes up for contention this year are the Botany from Elder & Cannon architects (pictured). It is the first phase of a wider regeneration of the Maryhill Locks area of Glasgow. Image copyright Andrew Lee.
Winning schemes will be announced by Alex Neil MSP, cabinet secretary for infrastructure and capital investment, in Edinburgh on November 23rd.
