Scots schemes stall on Stirling shortlist

Ten Scottish projects put forward for the annual RIBA Stirling prize have all lost out to six competitors from elsewhere in the UK by the British architects body.A total of 97 buildings were long-listed for the awards with Zaha Hadid’s recently opened Transport Museum being pipped to the post by the Iraqi architects work on Evelyn Grace Academy, London.
Dominated by schemes from London and the south the awards include one hopeful from Northern Ireland, a cultural centre for the Irish language in Londonderry designed by O’Donnell + Tuorney.
It is the first scheme from the country to be put forward for the prize.
The shortlisted schemes are:
An Gaelaras, O’Donnell + Tuorney
The Angel Building, AHMM
Evelyn Grace Academy, Zaha Hadid Architects
Folkwang Museum, David Chipperfield Architects
Olympic Velodrome, Hopkins Architects
Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Bennetts Associates
The winner will be announced by Kevin McCloud on October 1.
