Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo grandstand nears completion
May 26 2011
Plans to erect a £16m replacement bandstand for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo are moving ahead with engineers racing to complete the city’s second largest meccano set in time for this summers Tattoo.Built by RIM fabrications with assistance from Highland Galvanizers the project will see 1,000 tonnes of steel transported to the historic volcanic vent ready for assembly as the new stand.
It will boast new features such as its own custom built VIP area put together by Charles Henshaw & Sons together with a canopy being fabricated by Cairnhill Structures Ltd.
This will be three times the size of the original in order to accommodate an expanded reception and two additional VIP boxes.
Spectators will each enjoy a generous 35% more space per seat than the old 1975 stand offered.
Plumbed in toilets will also be a welcome bonus for the 8,700 capacity stands, whose occupants previously had to make do with portaloos.
