Edinburgh Airport launches investigation after roof blows off

Gale force winds in Edinburgh have taken their toll on more than just flight schedules with the city’s airport also bearing the brunt of 80mph winds.An investigation has begun into why a portion of cladding became detached from the south east pier of the terminal building during the gusts.
Eyewitnesses , including stranded passenger Alex Perryman, who tweeted: “Roof blown off. Roads and rail closed. May be here for a while. Apocalypse a little late. On the plus side, we have fudge.”
Designed by Halcrow the £19m south east pier was opened on December 1 2006 by BAA to meet a projected increase in passenger numbers.
