Elder + Cannon draft revised Gt Western Rd designs
Crème Developments have submitted improved designs by Elder + Cannon for the redevelopment of a former petrol station on Great Western Road, within the Woodlands conservation area of Glasgow.

Shown here for the first time the £3.8m development will accommodate 45 flats clad in natural sandstone and facing brick with a ground floor commercial element denoted in a series of stainless steel, glazed and timber infill panels.

Balustrading at upper levels is designed to provide differing visual articulation to the skyline whilst mild steel units are intended to act as ‘eaves level cornicing’ whilst timber louvres to the rear afford privacy to residents.

A previous submission for the site garnered 240 complaints owing to the felling of a protected Lime tree, but Crème now promises additional planting and landscaping in mitigation.

"balconies extrpolate the rhythm of adjoining bay windows" No they don't - it's six floors adjacent to four floors and it doesn't go. No concessions to the scale, height or lines of the buildings all around, just lopped off one floor as a sop to the objections. Grrr!

Still a greedy overdevelopment of an important site. A
student hostel in all but name.

It looks completely out of place, the window lines are obviously wrong as there are 6 floors next to buildings with 4 floors. And why so many tiny one bedroom flats (students perhaps)?

We have tenements, and beautiful preserved churches, castles, and buildings from the past... and in the future, we will have a load of derelect buildings like we our generation inherited from the 60's! Can we not respect the beauty of Glasgow and build solid beautiful buildings that withstand the test of time? Less focus on the old dollars would make all the difference!

I agree with all comments Not in keeping with surrouding architecture with not nearly enough parking facility

The gable end stone wall is infinitely more attractive than this six floor chicken coop. Have architects lost the feeling for the aesthetic?

Mediocre building; slightly surreal CGI - how tall are people in Woodlands?

Every bit as disastrous and ill-conceived as their last design - and still totally inappropriate for the location and surroundings

this is an ugly building which looks out of place with the surrounding area. I hope it does not go ahead!
