Rothesay and Parkhead Cross receive £3.26m funding boost

The Heritage Lottery Fund has announced it has awarded a cumulative grant of £3.26m toward townscape improvements to Rothesay and Parkhead Cross.Alloted under the Fund’s Townscape Heritage Initiative the money is being targeted at the run down districts to act as a catalyst for regeneration through the repair of historic buildings.
Rothesay will benefit to the tune of £1.5m with public realm enjancements carried out around the towns medieval castle, including refurbishment of a number of prominent buildings including the former Guildford Court Hotel.
Parkhead Cross meanwhile will net £1.76m toward shop front improvement work around the prominent five way junction, providing short term lets for artists, crafts people and start up businesses.
Commenting from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Colin McLean, said: "While HLF investment in preserving the unique character of these townscapes is not a universal panacea, looking after the heritage is an incredibly effective way of supporting the community’s economic life.”
