Edinburgh tram works back on track
May 11 2011
Work to establish Edinburgh’s new tram system is to restart on July 2 after stalling following a breakdown in relations between the parties involved. That impasse has now been resolved with Bilfinger Berger agreeing to pick up the tab for remediation work.
The work is needed to repair a deteriorating road surface around the tram lines on Princes Street, a job which could see the famous thoroughfare closed for up to nine months – including the festival period.
Just one lane will remain open to allow delivery traffic with all other traffic, including emergency vehicles, redirected down George Street.
There has been no work carried out on the £545m scheme since April 2011.
