Squire & Partners submit Manchester office plans
April 28 2011
The Cooperative Insurance Society Ltd has submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council for the redevelopment of Peterloo House to form a 12 storey, grade A office block.Designed by Squire & Partners the intervention is located within the George Street Conservation Area and will entail demolition of the underwhelming existing structure.
Incorporating basement parking the scheme is intended to contribute to the ongoing development of the surrounding civic quarter with projects including the redevelopment of St Peter’s Square and the demolition of Elizabeth House, a neighbouring eyesore property for an even bigger statement.
Subject to numerous design revisions following robust interventions from English Heritage the scheme has had a floor lopped off to defer to the Town Hall and protect the historic skyline.
