Philip Long appointed V&A at Dundee director
Philip Long, a senior curator at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, has been appointed to lead the project to establish the V&A outpost in Dundee.

An expert in Scottish art and design Long is leading the National galleries of Scotland‘s Artists Rooms project, a bid to bring exhibitions of international contemporary art to the venue.

Long has also organised exhibitions and written biographies for the likes of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Basil Spence amongst others.

Speaking following his appointment Long said: “The design for the new museum is superb, and the idea for the project is inspirational. V&A at Dundee will be international in ambition, and will rightly celebrate the vital part Scotland has played in design history, as well as being a focus for design-led innovation and opportunity in our country.”

Sir Mark Jones, director of the Victoria and Albert Museum said of Long: “His great knowledge of and enthusiasm for twentieth century and contemporary design, and his proven talent for communicating contemporary art to a wide public are just what is needed for this exciting project.”

Design Dundee Ltd are committed to delivering a landmark Kengo Kuma & Associates designed structure at Craig Harbour on the banks of the Tay. it will provide a public space for the celebration of the culture and evolution of design as well as its role in day to day life and commercial relevance.

And, according to recent reports, it will operate at an annual loss of £2.1 million. Happy Days!
