Birmingham Rotunda gets planning permission

Urban Splash and its partners have won planning permission for their scheme to transform Birmingham’s most significant landmark building. Birmingham City Council approved plans by Glen Howells for Urban Splash and the Birmingham Alliance to renovate the Rotunda into 234 residential apartments.The Birmingham Alliance is a partnership between Hammerson plc, Henderson Global Investors and Land Securities PLC. Plans can now be finalised to convert the 22-storey office building. News of the proposals provoked a reaction from the original architect of the building James Roberts, who insists that the public should be able to visit the top of the building.
