GSA relocates to Skypark
March 31 2011
Glasgow School of Art has announced that it is to relocate its design departments from Garnethill to Finnieston as the school vacates condemned properties. The flit has been necessitated by the need to begin demolition work on the Foulis building and Newbery tower, both of which need to be cleared to make way for Steven Holl’s new vision.
Some 700 staff and students will be affected by the move with the school signing a three year lease on 72,500sq/ft of space to accommodate them.
Staff are set to begin migrating to the new premises in June with students following in September with demolition of the existing premises beginning in July following the GSA degree show.
Ian Jones, Project Manager at GSA said “Over the past year the School considered a number of options across the City which could meet our requirements not only in terms of the size and space needed, but also in terms of our determination to maintain the quality of the student experience and the best possible working environment.
“Skypark meets these requirements, providing high quality studio and office accommodation in one building, with easy transport links to the Garnethill Campus and the West End.”
