Transport Museum opening date announced
March 21 2011
An expectant public will be able to peruse Glasgow’s Zaha Hadid designed Transport Museum in just a few short months after city officials announced the date the venue will finally open its doors - June 21.Councillor Gordon Matheson, who described the £74m design as “breathtaking”, will be on hand to formally open the riverfront complex.
Mathieson will also open the relocated Tall Ship Glenlee on the same day, following its relocation from its present berth at Glasgow Harbour on April 28.
The River Clyde venue has been under construction since 2007 and was externally complete last year, a point which presaged a lengthy internal fit out which has seen 3,000 exhibits carted down to the new look attraction.
In its previous guise as the Kelvin Hall, the museum attracted 500k visitors annually and council bosses believe the swish new architecture will draw even more.
Buro Happold acted as structural engineers for the expansive column free interiors.
