V&A publishes Exhibition Road shortlist
March 2 2011
The Victoria & Albert Museum has published a shortlist of seven proposals in their Exhibition Road Design Competition.Just seven entrants made it to final furlong, whittled down from a long-long list of 110 hopefuls from across the globe who had expressed an interest in the prestige commission.
It aims to create a new column free gallery space below street level to provide around 1,500m2 of space beneath a new external courtyard space. This will connect to Exhibition Road via a historic arched stone screen.
One of the shortlisted teams is Gareth Hoskins Architects who have followed up their Dundee collaboration with Snohetta with a second stab in London.
A jury will deliberate over the design in mid-March prior to announcing the winner at the end of the month.
Alongside the Hoskins bid a further half dozen teams made the grade. These were Amanda Levete Architects, Heneghan.peng.architects, Jamie ForbertArchitects, Jun Aoki & Associates, Michael Maltzan Architecture and Tony Fretton Architects.
