QMUC go-ahead
October 15 2004
Scottish Ministers have decided not to call for a public enquiry into East Lothian Council’s decision to grant outline planning permission for Queen Margaret University College’s new Craighall campus near Musselburgh, designed by Dyer Associates. The scale of the 35-acre, £50million development meant it could not go ahead until the Scottish Executive had given its approval. Work should now start on site during the second quarter of 2005, with 4000 staff and students expected to relocate from existing campuses at Corstorphine and Leith in 2007. As well as academic buildings, the campus at Craighall will also contain student accommodation, sports and leisure facilities and social spaces.
