Larkhall waste incinerator given go ahead
February 9 2011
A £50m waste incinerator for Larkhall has been given the go ahead by South Lanarkshire Council, much to the consternation of some 20,000 irate objectors. It will treat 150,000 tonnes of domestic, commercial and municipal waste each year – including hazardous substances.
Proponents of the plant aver that it will generate enough electricity to power 90,000 homes but critics contest that this will be paid for through toxic emissions and increased road congestion.
Scotgen will construct the incinerator at Dovesdale Farm, on greenbelt land overlooking the village of Stonehouse.
