Argyle Street eyesore in line for a makeover
January 21 2011
A derelict listed building on Glasgow’s Argyle Street could be brought back to life, after Salmon and NFU Mutual submitted a pre-application notice for its refurbishment to Glasgow City CouncilDesigned by Darling Associates the mixed use development is planned to comprise a hotel, retail, café, restaurant and public house, in addition to a rooftop sky bar.
This would all be housed within a rejuvenated grade B Edwardian warehouse by J.A Campbell and a new build block utilising the air rights above the adjacent Cairns lounge bar, owned by Punch Taverns.
The hotel reception, lounge and café will be built at first floor level, with the primary entrance fronting directly onto Miller Street. A glazed atrium facilitates a good outlook for all bedrooms in addition to providing a contrast between existing and new wings.
A full planning application for the £12m development could be made this Easter, pending additional consultations.
The scheme supercedes prior plans from Parritt Leng for a residential led redevelopment.
