Infrastructure work starts on Ravenscraig Innovation Park
November 25 2010
Infrastructure work has commenced on site at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) Scotland Innovation Park at Ravenscraig, an initiative designed to influence future house building via construction of a series of full scale “demonstrator homes.”North Lanarkshire Council awarded BRE £500k to enable the start, which will entail landscape and infrastructure work, to allow speedy realisation of a parallel invitation to companies interested in becoming involved at the park to submit building designs.
These are intended showcase how issues such as affordability, energy efficiency and recycling can be tackled in our built environment.
Set in two acres of land four homes and a visitor centre will ultimately be built which between them will host around £2m of green technology.
Rufus Logan, director of BRE Scotland, said: “The innovation park will include future materials techniques, technologies and processes which we hope will drive a step change in the building industry and kick-start a greener, low-carbon economy for Scotland.”
This is the second park to be built in the UK by BRE following an earlier initiative at Garston, near Watford and follows the recent conclusion of Scotland's Housing Expo.
