Volunteer group promotes alternative plans for Edinburgh Odeon
November 24 2010
A group of students, unhappy with redevelopment plans for an Edinburgh cinema, have taken matters into their own hands by coming up with plans of their own for the buildings revival. The New Victoria is striving to secure investment to return the grade B listed Odeon cinema on the city’s Clerk Street back to its original grandeur.
Their scheme would see the building transformed into a multi purpose arts venue, restoring the main auditorium and introducing three smaller venues beneath. A first floor bar would be introduced to an existing balcony area and the roof space would be opened up for events.
Presently owned by Duddingston House Properties the property is subject to a redesign proposal by 7N Architects which was blocked by the Scottish Government. It is currently being marketed for sale with a closing date of January 5.
