Aria sculpture shows Cumbernauld in a new light
A 10m tall figure designed by prolific Glaswegian sculptor Andy Scott is aiming to banish the New Town’s dark days of Carbuncle ignominy with a dazzling display for motorists.

With nights drawing in a permanent lighting scheme is to be switched on today to bathe the female figurine in a changing spectrum of light over a 48min cycle.

Lightfolio surreptitiously fitted the lights inside the sculpture in order to illuminate the textured metalwork in a dynamic fashion.

Part of the Cumbernauld Positive Image Project the sculpture is intended to create a distinctive image of Cumbernauld; increase residents' pride in their town; raise awareness across Scotland of Cumbernauld's attractiveness as a destination to live, work and play; create a sense of place and provide a positive statement about the town.

Commenting on the work Cllr Gerry McElroy, chair of Campsies Centre Cumbernauld Ltd, said: “She looks absolutely stunning during the day and the lighting means people can now appreciate her 24 hours a day.”
