Austin Smith Lord’s Roseisle Distillery, the first such major facility to be built in Scotland for 30 years, has been officially opened by Diageo’s chief executive, Paul Walsh. The malt whisky distillery received a Scottish Design Award for best commercial building thanks to an architecturally sensitive response to the technically advanced distillers.
Some 10m litres of spirit can be produced per year at the facility, which boasts its own bioenergy facility powered by liquid and solid by-products.
George Reynolds, Project Director for Austin-Smith:Lord, commented, "Fusing traditional craft, highly complex process engineering and innovative techniques in resource-efficient design, the building creates a confident architectural statement with care and consideration for the superb rural setting."
