Approval granted for mixed use Mull development
October 4 2010
City Architecture Office (CAO) has gained detailed planning approval for four houses and a guesthouse on the Isle of Mull for Westkey Properties.Occupying a 0.7 hectare site overlooking the Sound of Mull near Tobermory the development lies adjacent to the Mull Theatre Production Centre, also by CAO.
Designed to sit comfortably within the landscape the buildings run in parallel with the site contours of the land and are clustered to evoke rural character.
Orientated to maximise shelter and natural light the development echoes island vernacular in the use of slate, render and timber whilst providing a modern live/work environment for their inhabitants.
CAO director Moray Royles The Drumfin housing shows how modern contextual architecture can provide a competitive solution for thoughtful developers."
The project is scheduled to complete in 2011.
