August 26 2010
The Scottish Civic Trust are poised to commence opening Scotland’s doors next month as the annual free ‘Doors Open Days’ festival returns for its 20th anniversary year.Every weekend in September a range of “places and spaces” will be unlocked to allow the public to sneak a peak at ordinarily off limits castles, churches, houses, offices and factories
Over 900 sites and events are included in this year’s programme, the highlights of which include a formerly top secret WWII bunker in Inverness and a Masonic temple in Aberdeen, but a full rundown can be viewed at www.doorsopendays.org.uk.
Fiona Hyslop, Minister for Culture and External Affairs, said: “Regardless of whether your motivation is an appreciation for architecture or just nosiness, Doors Open Days offer a once in a year opportunity to get behind the scenes glimpses at a whole host of buildings.”
