GIA launch Queens Park bandstand competition
March 31 2010
The Glasgow Institute of Architects have teamed up Queen’s park Performance Group to invite design proposals for a multi purpose events and activity space.Located on the site of the former Queens Park bandstand the development is dependant on securing funding of around £500k.
It is planned for the arena to be used primarily on a seasonal basis from Spring to Autumn but consideration should be given to low light winter conditions.
Flexibility is the watchword in a scheme which is hoped to provide music, drama, dance, film, ice skating, children’s entertainment and fitness classes.
This is likely to see a demountable canopy installed over at least part of the performance area which should accommodate up to 900 people.
Prospective bidders will have flexibility over site area but are required to consider alternative uses for a small adjacent brick building.
All entries must be received by April 19 and will carry a £25 entry charge, £10 for students.
