Planning permission has been granted for a £150m biomass power station designed by Thomas Heatherwick in Stockton-on-Tees for Bio Energy Investment.Located on a 6ha brownfield site on the banks of the river Tees the 49 megawatt plant will power 50,000 homes using the by products of agriculture.
English design watchdog Cabe described the proposal for the curving tower planted with indigenous grasses as “exciting”.
A visitor centre is planned at the top of the building which is expected to become a major draw for the Tees valley.
