Igloo Design complete Leeds Babycream
January 17 2005
Manchester designers Igloo Design, and architects R2 Architecture and DK Architects have recently completed their second Babycream bar and restaurant in Leeds, for nightclub operators Cream and The Lyceum Group. The first venue opened in Liverpool in the spring of last year. The Leeds bar, which is aimed mainly at ex-clubbers in their mid-thirties, is within the grade II listed 19th century Athenaeum House. It has distinctly designed areas, with intimate seating downstairs and a more formal restaurant upstairs, and plasma screens showing clips of old movies. Special furnishings include a fluorescent stag’s head from a Lebanese company called CIA, and a bespoke red glass chandelier made by Danish designer Sophie Refer. The wallpaper used throughout is hand printed by Scottish company Timorous Beasties. Cherry wood panels, mirrors and upholstered walls help create a warm and welcoming environment. Most of the furniture was made by Manchester based company Cafe Interiors.
