Cumbernauld sheds Carbuncle image with sculpture

North Lanarkshire Council commissioned the work to boost the image of the Carbuncle winner for drivers on the A80 to the north of Auchenkilns junction.
It is hoped that the work will serve to increase residents pride and raise wider awareness of Cumbernauld as a destination for life, work and play.
Depicting a female form enshrouded by two large swooping arcs the design references Cumbernauld’s old Gaelic name, ‘comar nan allt’ or ‘coming together of waters’.
The £250k art work is scheduled to complete this Summer.

Yeah, because one scuplture will undo the 30 years of neglect that the town has suffered....
